"The Potential for Using Small-Group Literature Discussions in Intervention-Focused High School English" - Professional Piece
As I have taught this year after experiencing the Morehead Writing Project I continued doing research with Morehead State University. I am super excited to say that my research team wrote an article and were selected to be published in Reading & Writing Quarterly! Below I am going to attach the link to our article.

In case you are pressed for time and don't wish to read through the entirety of the article, I will summarize our topic and findings. Many honors and advanced literature courses use peer-to-peer discussion to aid in reading comprehension and analysis. In the typical intervention classroom, however, teachers tend to use direct instruction in their approach. In our study we sought to find out if discussions analyzing literature could be as effective in the intervention setting as in the accelerated setting. As it turns out, our data shows that using small-group discussions that are peer led leads to deeper understanding of a text and even lends to shaping the way students perceive other texts as well. To learn more about the research I implore you to visit the website linked above. If you have trouble accessing the article please let me know.
